Aviation is often cited as one of the hardest areas to decarbonise, and little meaningful progress seems to have been made. I’ve had a lifelong passion for aviation, and wanted to understand what was being done to clean up the industry, as well as what I could do to help speed up progress. This newsletter is part documenting my progress towards the ideal future aircraft, and part a look at the industry right now – who’s doing what, what technologies exist, what pieces are missing.

I started this after researching the aviation industry for a deep dive into the environmental impact of flying, and realising that the gap between where we are, and where we need to be is huge. I’m no aerospace engineer (my single semester of Aero engineering aside!) so I’m learning this from the ground up. I’ll make mistakes, and take wrong turns, but that’s all part of the journey!

Emails will hopefully arrive weekly(ish), though that’ll depend on how the project evolves as time goes on!

The name is inspired by my love for corvids, and is not to be confused with the identically named UAE spying program!

About Oli

I’m a recovering software engineer, with a passion for clean technology and a desire to create a greener, more equitable world. I also write a weekly climate newsletter over at Forge the Future, if that’s your jam – it was an FtF deep dive that kick-started this project in the first place!
